Rachel Hatch of the Women's Fund and Silas Lyons, editor of Record Searchlight/Redding.com, are at the podium. Rachel says Redding already has a number of important efforts under way to address mental health, so it's a good time to look outside, learn from what other communities are doing that could inform these efforts.
The Record Searchlight, which is producing a three-part series on mental health with in-depth coverage on the topic by reporter Alayna Shulman, a recipient of a California Health Journalism Fellowship from UCS Anneberg, is co-presenting this mental health forum.

University of Washington looking at disease burden and four out of top 10 is behavioral health, Leon Evans says.
Leon Evans, mental illness costly when we don't address it as a community. It's driving up the cost of health care. "There is no health without mental health," Evans said.
Mental illness usually discovered when a person is of high school age or heading off to college, Evans said.
