LIVE: Redding City Council may approve city manager goals, response to critical grand jury report
The Redding City Council on Tuesday night may approve broad goals for City Manager Barry Tippin's first year on the job.The council will consider the goals, which cover five areas: balance the city’s finances, make Redding safer, help spur economic development, improve community and transparency at City Hall and bring city government into the 21st century.Tippin formed the goals with help from a handpicked committee of business leaders, civic leaders and others. The committee met several times over the course of a month to hammer out specific objectives for each goal. In other action, the council may sign off on a response to the Shasta County Grand Jury's critical report on city code enforcement. In a draft letter bearing Mayor Brent Weaver's name, the city rejects most of the grand jury's findings and didn't commit to most of its recommendations, including moving city code enforcement wholly under the supervision of the Redding Police Department.
